REMARKABLE REGIONAL MALTS
Established in 1948, Douglas Laing is globally regarded as a leading independent Scotch Whisky specialist, with a focus on genuine Small Batch and artisan bottlings. With over 70 years industry expertise and experience, we are a proud family business in its third generation.
Our goal is to continually exceed the expectations of our customers and end consumers around the world by offering the most special and unique Scotch Whisky experience.
After decades of establishing unique relationships, we access and thereafter hand select the finest, and often rarest, Scotch Whisky stocks from across all of Scotland’s Whisky regions.
Douglas Laing and Co are pleased to introduce the Remarkable Regional Malts; our collection of premium, Blended (or “Vatted”) Malt Scotch Whiskies.
It all began in 2009 with Big Peat; a marriage of Single Malts from Distilleries in Islay. Following his success, Douglas Laing launched Scallywag in 2013 (Speyside Single Malts), Timorous Beastie in 2014 (Highland Single Malts), Rock Island in 2015 (Island Single Malts), and The Epicurean in 2016 (Lowland Single Malts).
We believe that our Remarkable Regional Malts are the Ultimate Distillation of Scotland’s Malt Whisky Regions; each bottling embodies the overarching characteristics of the region it is sourced from, without colouring or chill-filtration.
If a Single Malt is a violin, you might consider a Blended Malt to be an entire orchestra.
The Epicurean Lowland Malt Scotch Whisky
In a tipple of our Small Batch “The Epicurean”, you can bet on a nose that is barley-rich, citric, floral and herbal. The mouth-coatingly sweet palate displays crunched sugar, burnt citrus, mixed spices, thyme, peaches and hard candy…All the charmingly underpinned adn enriched in the finish with more of that earlier herbal character, in a gristy style with almonds, cut grass and burn sugar.
Timorous Beastie Highland Malt Scotch Whisky
Overridingly sweet, then a warming floral, light barley and spicy honey tone that opens into a spicy style, fructivorous, mellow, sugary and vanilla taste and a subtle yet sweet, carrying an oaky finish all with a quality late meringue style.
Scallywag Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky
A sweetly spiced character woven onto delicious vanilla smells. On the palate a sweet stewed fruit, Christmas pudding, dark chocolate and spices with a zesty orange, sweet tobacco cocoa and rich fruit cake finish.
Gauldrons Campbeltown Malt Scotch Whisky
On the nose, detect a dry saltiness with sweet cereal and a late hint of gentle peat smoke. The palate is initially dry (beachy and maritime) warming to crunched sugar, barley and oak. The warmingly spiced finish brings puffs of smoke and rock pools with a dark sugar sweetness.
Rock Island Island Malt Scotch Whisky
Wave-soaked rocks adn salter oceanic fresh influence on the nose while the subtle taste carries a soft and rather sweet peat paralleled with smoke, honey, damp ash, licorice and late pepper. All of what went before is neatly replicated in the moreish finish.
Big Peat Islay Malt Scotch Whisky
Opens fresh, salty and clean, developing to sweet malt dried over peat. The ashes of sweet tar, beaches and smoking chimneys allows for a long adn lingering finish. It replicated the palate with salty, tangy licorice, smoke and bonfire ashes with a phenolic like quality.
